  18. This is a disabled demonstration version of G-Print.  Before you discard it
  19. as not representative of the real version of G-Print, let me tell you how
  20. it's disabled.  The G-Print demonstration version works exactly like the
  21. commercially available version, with one exception.  It prints the words
  22. "G-Print DEMO" on every page you print with it.
  23.  
  24. Some of G-Print's advanced features will be difficult to figure out without
  25. the manual, but I'll explain some basic ones here to get you started.
  26.

  28. NOTE: Unless you already have GDOS (Atari's Graphics Device Operating
  29. System), with an appropriate printer driver, installed in your system, you
  30. will not be able to run this demonstration.  The fully-functional version
  31. of G-Print comes with all necessary GDOS files and an installation program
  32. which will set up G-Print for you.
  33.  
  34. To run G-Print, you will need to have Atari GDOS or G+PLUS (an excellent 
  35. GDOS replacement by Codehead Software) in the AUTO folder of the disk 
  36. drive your computer boots from.  You will also need an ASSIGN.SYS file 
  37. containing a printer driver installed as device 21 followed by a list 
  38. of fonts.  Screen fonts are optional, but the printer driver and 
  39. fonts are necessary.  This means that teh GDOS setup from DEGAS Elite 
  40. will not suffice.  Drivers and fonts from Easy Draw, Analyze, WordUp, 
  41. and Timeworks Desktop Publisher, for example, should work fine.
  42.  
  43. If you don't have the appropriate GDOS files to use this demo, you 
  44. can still download the G-Print Option Explorer (GPR_OX.PRG).  It doesn't 
  45. actually print files, but it lets you see what options are available 
  46. and how the user interface feels.  It also shows a screen snapshot 
  47. when you choose the preview or print options.

  51. When G-Print first starts up, after displaying the information box (and in
  52. this version the "order me" box), it displays the "Novice Menu."  This menu
  53. is intended to get new users up and running with G-Print as quickly as
  54. possible.  It is then possible to save a default configuration which will not
  55. display this menu when you're ready to do so.

  59.                              GETTING STARTED
  60.

  63. The six options:
  64.  
  65. Load a document into G-Print:
  66.  
  67.     "Press" this button (click the mouse button while the pointer is
  68.     over this option) to load a file which you plan to print.  You may
  69.     load files from 1st Word, 1st Word Plus, Word Writer ST, and ST Writer*
  70.     as well as plain ASCII text files.

  73. Change the font your document will be printed in:
  74.  
  75.     This option allows you to select a GDOS font and size to print your
  76.     document in.  Since G-Print reformats your document based on the
  77.     size of this font, your lines will always be approximately the same 
  78.     length!

  80. Change the spacing of your document for printing:
  81.  
  82.     G-Print allows you to set the spacing between lines to anything you
  83.     desire, but single, one-and-a-half, and double spacing are provided
  84.     to make things simpler.
  85.  
  86. Change the margins of your document for printing:
  87.  
  88.     G-Print allows you to set the left, right, top, and bottom margins
  89.     to any value you desire.  The default settings show the distances in
  90.     inches, but you can set G-Print to use centimeters if you desire.

  92. Print out the document you have loaded into G-Print"
  93.  
  94.     This prints your document (surprise).  It allows you to choose which
  95.     pages to print and whether to pause between pages or eject a sheet
  96.     of paper after printing.

  98. Leave the G-Print program:
  99.  
  100.     Yes, this gets you out of the G-Print program.
  101.  
  102. Switch to advanced user menus:
  103.  
  104.     This option lets you switch to the part of G-Print that uses standard
  105.     GEM menus.  There are many, many more options available here.  If you
  106.     click the "Novice Startup" option so that the checkmark doesn't show
  107.     and then do a "Save Configuration..." with the file name GPRINT.GPR,
  108.     G-Print will start up in the "advanced user" mode next time you run it.
  109.     You can change any other parameters you wish and have G-Print start
  110.     up with them too if you change them before saving GPRINT.GPR.

  112. * ST Writer is in the public domain and is available for download from many
  113. on-line services as well as from several public domain software dealers.

  117.                             THE SAMPLE FILES

  121. Several sample files are provided in the archive with the G-Print demo.  To
  122. try them out, load in the file, and then use "Load Configuration..." to load
  123. the configuration file which starts with the same name.

  131. Some of G-Print's most unique or useful features are listed below.  Try 'em out!
  132.  
  133. Set Document Styles...
  134.  
  135.     This option lets you change the way styled text is printed.  For 
  136.     example, you can set G-Print to print out all underlined text
  137.     as outlined.  You might also set G-Print to print all light text in
  138.     the "Extra Font."  You can then set the extra font to anything you
  139.     want to add variety to your document.  I use the extra font for 
  140.     things like titles and headings.
  141.  
  142. Orientation...
  143.  
  144.     This option lets you print pages in ladscape (sideways) mode as well
  145.     as in "booklet mode" (referred to as dual page mode).  This special
  146.     mode sets up two pages on each piece of paper and chooses the pages
  147.     so that when the pieces of paper are folded together, they'll read
  148.     likle a booklet.
  149.  
  150. Title Page...
  151.     
  152.     This is the most complicated option in G-Print.  It allows you to
  153.     designate part of your document as the "title page."  You can choose 
  154.     the first page in your word processor as the title page or decide how
  155.     many lines whould be the title page.  Then you can center those lines,
  156.     print them in a special fonts, put a border around that page, and more.
  157.  
  158. Fast Preview...
  159.  
  160.     This G-Print function allows you to see how the lines and pages of your
  161.     document will break.  You can also proofread here.  It allows you to
  162.     move around the page quickly.
  163.  
  164. True Preview...
  165.  
  166.     This option lets you see what your document will look like printed. 
  167.     Each time you move around the page, it will be reformatted so it can
  168.     be slow for large pages.  Unless you load the screen fonts (see the
  169.     File menu), the text may be difficult to read.

  174.                                 UPGRADES
  175.

  178. Upgrades will be available for $4 to protect your investment.  Already, an 
  179. update to support additional 1st Word Plus features and the new TX2 format
  180. is planned.  Although G-Print is already FSM GDOS* compatible, as soon as it 
  181. becomes available, G-Print will be updated to support FSM's new features such
  182. as continuous font scaling.

  184. * FSM GDOS is Atari's new GDOS which supports outline fonts.  It uses the same
  185. set of fonts for
